UPDATE (July 17, 2017) — Jamel Dunn, 31, of Cocoa, has been identified as the dead man found floating in a pond off of Plaza Parkway in Cocoa on Friday
The medical examiner has determined the cause of death was drowning and Cocoa Police Detectives continue to investigate the incident.
“Detectives say there does not immediately appear to be any signs of foul play,” said Cocoa Police PIO Yvonne Martinez.
According to Martinez, Dunn’s Fiancé reported him missing on Wednesday, July 12th. Detectives will wait for toxicology results to determine if there were any contributing factors that may have caused his death.

Detectives Conducting Death Investigation After Man Found Dead Floating In Cocoa Pond
BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – Cocoa Police detectives are working a death investigation after a man was found floating in a pond off of Plaza Parkway in Cocoa on Friday.
Police responded to the scene at around 12:45 p.m. after a witness alerted 911 of a body found floating by the edge of the water.
According to Cocoa Police, the body appears to have been in the water for several days.
Authorities have not released the identity of the man, but did say the body is that of a black man. The identity of the man and cause of death will be released at a later time.
Brevard County Sheriff divers had to be called in to remove the body from the pond due to severe decomposition and preserve any evidence that may have been left at the scene.
Detectives are currently reviewing missing persons cases in the area and are working to determine identity and cause of death.
A medical examiner will conduct an autopsy in the coming days.
