Car Strikes Merritt Island Health and Rehab Facility Tuesday Morning, Driver and Pedestrian Injured

Driver, pedestrian suffer minor injuries
BREVARD COUNTY • MERRITT ISLAND, FLORIDA – Florida Highway Patrol is investigating an incident that resulted in a car striking the Merritt Island Health and Rehab Center Tuesday morning and injuring a pedestrian inside the facility.
Authorities say a 2008 Mercury was traveling on Lean St. when the driver passed out and drove through a chain link fence and striking the rehab facility at around 7:55 a.m..
Investigators say the impact of the crash resulted in the vehicle entering one of the rooms inside the facility and injuring a sleeping 64-year-old woman identified as Teresa Bogener from Cocoa.
The driver of the vehicle is identified as 35-year-old Matthew Anthony from Cocoa.
Wayne and Bogener suffered minor injuries and were transported to Holmes Regional for further evaluation.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, troopers suspect that the driver was impaired by drugs. Authorities took a blood sample from the driver and charges are pending until the results from the blood sample are confirmed.
Florida Highway Patrol is still investigating the incident.
