The Cocoa Beach Karate School hosted its 5th annual Soke Nagamine Memorial Weekend to honor the famous Okinawan karate man and to bring karate practitioners from all over North America to Cocoa Beach to train together in a three day event at Cocoa Beach Health & Fitness.

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA BEACH, FLORIDA – The Cocoa Beach Karate School hosted its 6th annual Soke Nagamine Memorial Weekend on Saturday, August 12 to honor the famous Okinawan karate man and to bring karate practitioners from all over North America to Cocoa Beach to train together in a three day event at Cocoa Beach Health & Fitness.

The event was held at the Cocoa Beach Karate School in the Cocoa Beach Health & Fitness facility, located at 1355 North Atlantic Avenue.

Soke Takayoshi Nagamine was the head of the World Matsubayashi-Ryu – Shorin-Ryu Karate-do Association (WMKA) until his passing in 2012. He took over this position from his father, O’Sensei Shoshin Nagamine, the founder of the style and the WMKA, when he passed away in 1997.

More than 50 Matsubasyashi-Ryu karate practitioners from as far as Canada, New York, New Jersey, North Carolina, South Carolina, Ohio, and all over Central and Southern Florida participated in thE event hosted by Cocoa Beach Karate at the Cocoa Beach Health & Fitness Center.

Soke visited Cocoa Beach to conduct seminars in 2011 and was due to return in 2012 before his untimely demise.

“We are honored to be able to host this annual event to honor Soke and to celebrate Matsubayashi-Ryu Karate-D,” said Desmond Chaskelson.

“With karate coming to the Olympics in 2020, there is an increasing interest in this martial art. As part of the World Matsubayashi-Ryu Karate Association (WMKA) we here at Cocoa Beach Karate are fortunate to be able to train and pass on this traditional karate from Okinawa, the birthplace of karate.”
