BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – Cocoa Police Detectives are seeking new information in a 9-month long homicide investigation in which a father was shot multiple times right after he dropped his son off at the school bus stop one block away.

Walter Thomas was killed last October and the incident was recorded on a nearby business’ surveillance camera.

The video shows Thomas walking his young son to the school bus stop from Grove Avenue to Fern Street.

Police say as he walked back to his home he encountered what appears to be another male on a bicycle.

“The two exchanged words and it appears the dispute was over the bicycle,” said Yvonne Martinez of the Cocoa Police Department.

“When the suspect gave the bicycle to Thomas, the suspect is seen reaching into his pants for what was later determined to be a gun.”

The suspect fired multiple times at Thomas, knocking him to the ground and continued to shoot until he got back on the bicycle and fled. Thomas was able to get up and run home, where he collapsed and later died.
