Trauma Alert Issued After Ernest Jones of Merritt Island Crashes Into West Cocoa Fire Station

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Brevard County Fire Rescue Station 44 A-Shift got a big surprise about 7:45 p.m. Monday night when a vehicle came off  State Road 520 and crashed into their station in West Cocoa.

Fortunately, the vehicle hit an empty office and nobody was injured except the driver, who was flown out as a trauma alert.

According to Sgt. Kim Montes, Florida Highway Patrol Public Affairs Officer, Ernest Jones, 41, of Merritt Island, was traveling eastbound on King Street, suffered a medical episode and lost control of his 2003 Chevy SUV.

The vehicle left the road and traveled through a ditch.

The front of Jones’ vehicle hit the fire station, located at at 3780 West King Street.

Jones was evacuated by helicopter, and is in serious condition at Holmes RegionalMedical Center.

This crash remains under investigation and the fire station is operational.
