BREVARD COUNTY • VIERA, FLORIDA –  Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey led off “Walk to School Day” Oct. 4, along with Viera Charter School Assistant Principal Tom Armstrong, Principal Dr. Julie Cady, VCS Board Chair Robert Jordan and Assistant Principal Dr. Lynne Spadaccini.

The annual event encourages health and fitness habits in students, and school children throughout Brevard County joined thousands across the world in celebrating International Walk to School Day.

The walk spanned the distance between the Viera Campus of Calvary Chapel Melbourne south along Breslay Drive to the school.

Walk to School Day events work to create safer routes for walking and bicycling and emphasize the importance of issues such as increasing physical activity among children, pedestrian safety, traffic congestion, concern for the environment and building connections between families, schools and the broader community.
