BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Eastern Florida State College men’s basketball team will open the 2017-18 season as the No. 5 team in the country.

The Titans are coming off a national championship runner-up finish and will start the season as one of the top teams in the NJCAA Division I preseason poll.

“We are thrilled to get the preseason national recognition of being ranked fifth in the country,” Eastern Florida State College men’s basketball coach Jeremy Shulman said.

“It’s a testament to the outstanding years we have had previously, but we are also focused and understanding that this is a new season with new challenges. Rankings don’t bring victories so we have to stay humble and hungry and try to be 1-0 each day.”

The Titans have seven players returning from last season’s 31-win season and will face a tough schedule as they will play three of the top 15 teams in the poll, including No. 4 Vincennes in Indiana on opening weekend.

Eastern Florida State College fans can get their first look at this year’s team on Friday night during Titan Madness.

The event begins at 6:30 p.m. at Titan Field House on the Melbourne campus and admission is free.
