The incident then became a standoff, which then resulted in Proctor taking his own life.

“This unedited body camera video shows you firsthand exactly what our officers experienced on the night of October 11, 2017 on Martin Lane,” said West Melbourne police officials in a Facebook post.

West Melbourne Police officials said Saturday that the the firearm referenced in the 9-1-1 call was a .22 rifle with a scope.

According to police, Proctor pointed that firearm at his father prior to law enforcement’s arrival. He pulled the trigger twice, but the gun jammed. That firearm was taken from  Proctor prior to law enforcement’s arrival, and was hidden behind a large stack of boxes in the home.

Proctor had another firearm in his bedroom, a a 30-30 rifle with a scope, which was  the weapon he used to fire at Mathis and Phelabaum, and also the firearm he used to end his life.

“We are actively investigating the source of the firearms,” said West Melbourne Police officials.

“We ask anyone who might have information to contact either the West Melbourne Police Department, or Crimeline. We encourage the public to call even if they think their information regarding this case is not important.”

BREVARD COUNTY • WEST MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – A 16-year-old Melbourne High School student was found dead after a standoff with police early Thursday morning.

According to the West Melbourne Police Department, the teen, who barricaded himself inside a West Melbourne home in the 5100 block of Martin Lane, was found dead after suffering a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The West Melbourne Police Department Strategic Response Team and the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team responded to the incident, which began about 11:45 p.m. Wednesday.

According to police, officers were called  to the home with information from a woman that her 16-year-old grandson was throwing things inside the house.

When officers entered the home to investigate, police said the 16-year-old boy got a gun from a bedroom and opened fire with a small caliber long gun at the officers, who then retreated.

Officers then retreated towards the front door with three other occupants of the home as the suspect continued firing on officers. Officers were not able to return fire.

No officers or occupants of the home were injured, and the shooter remained inside the home with at least two other occupants who later escaped.

West Melbourne Police Department Capt. Richard Cordeau said during a press conference that multiple shots were fired at the officers, which continued as officers attempted to retreated from the residence.

The identity of the teen has not been released, and according to Capt. Cordeau, the teen was known to police.
