BREVARD COUNTY • TITUSVILLE, FLORIDA – The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Corrections Deputy earlier today for fraudulently obtaining funds from an inmate’s release account.
BCSO Agents arrested 29-year-old, Felicia Renee Brown and charged her with Fraudulent Use of a Credit Card, Scheme to Defraud, Petit Theft, Official Misconduct, Criminal Use of Personal Information and False Entries in Books of a Business Entity.
The investigation began on November 14 after an account clerk discovered a discrepancy in an inmate’s release account, according to Tod Goodyear of the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.
The Brevard County Jail was also contacted by the inmate who advised they had not received the money in their account upon release.
Investigators from the Economic Crimes Task Force and Professional Standards Unit determined the releasing corrections deputy neglected to provide the inmate their funds on a debit card, which is standard procedure.
Allegedly, Brown noticed that the funds were available and disbursed the funds on a debit card that she took, making unauthorized purchases at four stores in the Titusville area.
Brown was captured on business surveillance recordings making some of the purchases, according to Goodyear.
BCSO says the total amount taken from the account was less than $100.
Brown began her employment with the Sheriff’s Office in December 2013 and is assigned to the Brevard County Jail Complex.
After the arrest, Brown’s employment was immediately terminated.
Brown is currently being held at a local County Jail Complex on $30,000 Bond.
