BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA — Former men’s basketball star Anthony Jackson has been awarded the Most Valuable Player of the Week by the top division of professional basketball in Slovakia, the Slovakian Basketball League (SBL).

Jackson, who played for the Crimson and Gray and head coach Billy Mims during the 2010-11 and 2011-12 seasons, was named player of the week after leading his team, Iskra Svit, to a 106-102 win over Nova Ves last week.

The Melbourne, Florida native recorded a double-double on 25 points and 13 rebounds in the victory.

“I’m so very proud of Anthony and the job that he is doing in his first professional season in Slovakia,” exclaimed Mims.

“Anthony was a valuable piece to the puzzle on our 2012 SSC Championship team, and former Panther great Justin Sedlak helped him find this opportunity to continue his basketball dreams on the European professional level.”

Jackson has turned out to be one of the top players in the SBL this season and led Iskra Svit to a 6-3 record.

Through nine games, he is shooting 62.3 percent from the field and 47.6 percent from behind the three-point line. Jackson ranks sixth in the league in rebounds per game (8.4) and eighth in steals per game (1.6).
