Brevard Public Schools Take Hundreds of Employees To Orlando Magic Game As ‘Thank you’ To Staff

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Brevard school leaders didn’t know what to expect when they decided earlier this fall to say “thank you” to employees with a night at an Orlando Magic game. But Friday Dec. 9, the district sent a crowd of 651 BPS employees and their family members to the Amway Center, including about 250 who rode six “fan buses” from Viera, Titusville and West Melbourne.

Brevard Public Schools partnered with the Magic to offer super-discounted tickets to staff that started at $12 – an affordable price for teachers, custodians, office clerks and other public employees.

BPS provided every ticket holder with a $10 voucher towards food and drink at arena concession stands. BPS school buses and district drivers ensured fans arrived in downtown Orlando — and home — safely.

The trip cost Brevard taxpayers nothing. All costs for food and transportation (about $10,000) were paid by revenue from private-company advertising on the Brevard Public Schools website, newsletters, and BPS-TV channel.

The Magic lost Friday to the Denver Nuggets, 89-103. The score did not appear to affect the spirits of BPS attendees as they left the Amway Center.
