Department of Corrections Work Release Escapee Captured in Rockledge

BREVARD COUNTY • ROCKLEDGE, FLORIDA — Early Friday afternoon, 25-year-old, Brian Simmerman, a State Department of Corrections work crew trustee fled from his work detail in Rockledge.

The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office was notified that Simmerman was missing from his work detail at approximately 1:49 p.m., and that his ankle monitor (GPS) was located near Prospect Park in Rockledge where it had been cut off.

Deputies and Rockledge Police Officers immediately initiated a search for the subject in that area at which time Deputy Zach King observed the subject near Fiske Boulevard and King’s Post Road in Rockledge.

Upon seeing Deputy King, Simmerman fled on foot, running behind houses with Deputy King in pursuit.

Simmerman attempted to elude Deputy King by crossing a canal into Levitt Park, however Deputy King continued to chase the escaped prisoner and was quickly joined by Deputies Tygh Freeman and Sean Hannigan.

The chase continued through back yards until Simmerman was physically apprehended by the Deputies in the backyard of a residence on Bayward Place.

Simmerman was serving a 15 month sentence at the Department of Corrections Work Release Facility for charges relating to Burglary and Dealing in Stolen Property.

As a result of today’s criminal actions Simmerman will now face Escape and Resisting Arrest charges.

I would like to commend the actions of all the Law Enforcement Officers who took part in today’s apprehension and especially those of Deputies Zac King, Tygh Freeman, and Sean Hannigan for their part in the arrest!!

Another great job by Brevard County Law Enforcement Officers who work together each and every day to protect our community.
