BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA — Sam Daniel has been named the U.S. Basketball Writers Association Men’s Division II National Player of the Week for the week ending December 10.
This is the first national player of the week nod for the Kingsland, Georgia native.
He was named the SSC Player of the Week on Monday after leading the Panthers to their first conference victory of the season, a 103-99 upset win over undefeated, No. 24 Nova Southeastern on the road in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
The senior forward recorded a career-high 47 points on 15-of-23 shooting, including 7-of-12 three-pointers and 10-of-14 free throws. He filled the stat sheet in the win over the Sharks, adding eight rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Daniel’s point total set a new Rick Case Arena scoring record and were the most points scored by any player during the 13 years of head coach Billy Mims’ Florida Tech coaching career.
The Panthers, now 4-6 overall and 1-3 in SSC play, host the Florida Tech Winter Classic on Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 18-19, at the Clemente Center. FIT will square off with Miles College on Monday and Shawnee State on Tuesday. Both games will tip off at 6 p.m. ET.
