BREVARD COUNTY • WEST MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Authorities have identified 20-year-old Johnny Lee Francis of Palm Bay as the dead man floating in a pond at Whispering Winds subdivision, located at Dairy Road and Peaceful Place.
According to West Melbourne Police Capt. Richard Cordeau, an autopsy to determine the cause of death is being conducted and results are not expected for several weeks.
The incident began Wednesday at approximately 11:30 a.m. when West Melbourne Police responded to the report of a deceased person found floating in the pond at Whispering Winds subdivision located at Dairy Road and Peaceful Place.
The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team responded and recovered a black male from the pond.
“During the recovery there was evidence to believe a vehicle may be submerged in the pond,” said Capt. Cordeau.
“The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team searched the pond and was able to locate a vehicle submerged approximately 63 feet from the bank of the water. The vehicle recovered is a Nissan Sentra recently reported stolen out of the city of Palm Bay.”
An investigation is still going on at this time as to how the vehicle and what is believed to be the sole occupant of the vehicle ended up in the pond.

Dead Body, Vehicle Pulled From West Melbourne Pond By Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team

BREVARD COUNTY • WEST MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – West Melbourne Police and the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team have recovered a dead body that was found floating in a pond at Whispering Winds subdivision on Dairy Road and Peaceful Place on Wednesday.
Investigators say the BCSO Dive Team recovered a black male around 11:30 a.m. and a submerged vehicle in the pond that was around 60 feet from the bank of the water.
Sgt. Michelle Page of the West melbourne Police Department said the vehicle was a Nissan Sentra and was recently reported stolen in Palm Bay.
Authorities are not releasing the man’s identity until the family has been properly notified.
Police say they are still investigating the matter and believe the man was the only one in the vehicle when the car entered the water.
