ABOVE VIDEO: Florida Tech’s baseball team is ranked a respectable ninth in the South Region of the NCBWA Preseason Poll. 

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA — Earlier this week, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association announced its 2018 South Region Preseason Polls and with With a total of 14 points and a 30-20 record from the 2017 campaign, Florida Tech was tabbed ninth overall, sitting behind SSC rival Lynn University.

Representing the conference along with the Panthers, Tampa was selected in second with 82 points while Nova Southeastern took the third place with 71 points.

The Florida Southern Mocs were appointed fifth overall with 51 points, one ahead of North Alabama, which placed in sixth.

Also announced, the NCBWA released its nominees for the Preseason All-South Region Teams. Receiving his first recognition, junior  Andrew Marzheuser was named to the All-South Region Second Team.

In 2017, Marzheuser ended the season with a 7-2 record in 14 games played and 72 innings pitched. The Cincinnati native recorded 67 strikeouts, 24 of which were looking, which marked the 10th best inside the SSC leaderboard to place him on the 2017 All-SSC First Team.

Earning Preseason All-South Region Second Team for the second consecutive year, senior Daniel Szpik ended his junior year with a .330 batting average, .576 slugging percentage and .442 on base percentage.

The Toronto native amassed 45 RBI, and 63 hits, which included 12 doubles and one triple. The outfielder ended the season tying for a team-best 11 home runs. With his numbers, Spzik was nominated 2017 All-SSC Second Team.
