BREVARD COUNTY• TITUSVILLE, FLORIDA – Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey held a press conference Saturday morning regarding the tragic death of Brevard County Sheriff’s Deputy Kevin Stanton, who was killed in an early morning crash on I-95 near State Road 50 in Titusville.
Sheriff Ivey was accompanied by 13 members of the department’s command team, as well as a member of the Florida Highway Patrol.
“The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office is deeply saddened to report that one of our deputies has died in the line of duty after being involved in a traffic crash early this morning,” said a statement released by the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.
“Field Training Officer Kevin Stanton died after his marked patrol vehicle was struck by a semi-truck on Interstate 95 in Titusville.”
FTO Stanton was hired as a Deputy with the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office on October 29, 2007, and has served with the agency for more than 10 years.
During his years of service, Deputy Stanton has received numerous letters of commendation, commendable service awards, and was nominated for a Life-Saving Award.
The investigation of this accident is being conducted by the Florida Highway Patrol. FHP said that the semi suffered “a left front tire malfunction separating from the wheel and wrapping around the axle causing the driver lose control and crash into Officer Stanton’s patrol car.”
The press conference was held at the Barbara A. Pill Law Enforcement Center. Deputy Stanton is the first Brevard County Sheriff’s Deputy to die in the line of duty since Deputy Pill was shot and killed by Brandon Lee Bradley during a traffic stop on a residential street in Melbourne on March 6, 2012.
