Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey Recognizes Ian Vega With BCSO “Great Kids” Award

BREVARD COUNTY • MERRIT ISLAND, FLORIDA– Last week, I had the honor of presenting Tropical Elementary student, Ian Vega, the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office “Great Kids” Award in front of his classmates, teachers, and parents.
The “Great Kids” Program was started to recognize outstanding kids in our community who constantly show respect for their peers, help others in a time of need, maintain a strong academic standard and represent themselves, their family and their school with great character and pride.
Ian was nominated for the “Great Kid” Award by his Teachers, Principal and our School Resource Deputy, Tim Eckner.
Ian’s first nine weeks of the grading period were extremely challenging, but Ian refused to give up and subsequently improved his grades.
His teachers’ were not only impressed by Ian’s “can do” attitude but were also motivated themselves by his commitment and dedication to reaching his goals while encouraging others around him to do the same.
Maybe the highest compliment I heard about Ian though is that “he does the right thing when no one is looking!!” Ian is known to be patient, kind and a good friend to his fellow students.
These qualities not only make Ian a great kid but will one day ensure that he is a great young man who respects others.
Please join me in congratulating Ian as a “Great Kid,” Principal Sorokin and her staff for nominating Ian, and of course his parents for teaching their son the value of good character, hard work and being a “Great Kid.”
