BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Recently the Space Coast Credit Union in Port St. John was robbed after a man passed a note to the teller demanding money.
The suspect was arrested less than an hour later when he was located trying to hide from Deputies in a heavily wooded area near the bank.
The uncooperative suspect refused to tell the Agents where the money he had stolen could be located as he was not in possession of the currency at the time of his arrest.
With the suspect in custody, Agents from our North Precinct General Crimes Unit directed their efforts to recover the stolen currency.
Beginning in the area where the suspect was apprehended, Agents began combing the wooded area in hopes of locating the money.
Agents reached out for K-9 assistance and K9 Corporal Jerry Shealy and his partner “Tebow” responded to assist in searching the area during the afternoon and early evening. K-9 “Tebow” is trained to alert on currency and is relatively new to our agency.

While the immediate search proved to be unsuccessful, Deputy Shealy refused to give up and subsequently returned to the area the following morning to continue searching for the stolen money.
Armed with additional information that Agents had gained through further investigation, the K9 team was able to narrow the large area to be searched.
The team’s diligence proved successful as K9 “Tebow” located the money that had been hidden by the suspect.
Due to the successful teamwork of the handler, his K9 partner, and members of North GCU, the entire amount of stolen currency was located and returned to the bank.
Please join me in congratulating Jerry and K-9 “Tebow” on a job well done and for refusing to give up.
