BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – As the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office annual Awards Ceremony quickly approaches, Friday, April 13th, Church of Viera, I would like to lead up to the event by sharing with you some of the incredible accomplishments of your Brevard County Sheriff’s Office team members who will be recognized that evening during the event.

I would like to recognize Deputies Heather Bivins and Lee Roth of our East Precinct.

In June of 2017, the Sheriff s Office received an emergency call concerning an individual who had been shot. As patrol units responded to the call, an inner-perimeter was established and units responded to render aid.

Upon arrival, Deputy Roth and Deputy Bivins assessed and cleared the scene and then began rendering first aid to the victim who had multiple gunshot wounds. While providing urgent care, they were also able to obtain pertinent information about the suspect and vehicle he was driving.

Deputies Bivin’s’ and Roth’s quick actions and critical aid included cutting away clothing, calming the victim, locating the wounds, and applying pressure to stop the bleeding. The Deputies continued their lifesaving measures until Brevard Fire Rescue arrived on scene to take over the life saving efforts.

While first aid was being provided, the Deputies passed the suspect information to the perimeter Deputies who were assisting in the investigation. Deputy Adam Weimer and Deputy Nate Kirk then observed a vehicle matching the description and conducted a felony traffic stop.

The Deputies quickly determined this was in fact the vehicle involved in the shooting and located a .380 caliber handgun in the vehicle, which matched the casing recovered at the scene.

The suspect later cooperated with the investigation where it was determined that the victim was mistaken for a rival gang member.

If it were not for the actions of Deputy Lee Roth and Deputy Heather Bivins, the victim would not have received the immediate lifesaving treatment needed and quite possibly, not have survived the incident.

The Deputies additionally obtained the information needed to identify and arrest the suspect.

Please join me in congratulating everyone involved in this incident, with a special recognition to Deputy Heather Bivins and Deputy Lee Roth for their life saving efforts and commitment to protecting our citizens!

Both Heather and Lee will be recognized at our upcoming award ceremony. Great job Heather and Lee!
