Daniel Wheeler, 57, of Cocoa Killed in Hit-and-Run Crash, FHP Seeks Vehicle That Fled Scene

Authorities are seeking a hit-and-run driver after a fatal crash with a pedestrian about 3:30 a.m. Sunday in Cocoa. According to Florida Highway Patrol Public Information Officer Kim Montes, Daniel Wheeler, 57, of Cocoa, was struck and killed by two vehicles, one of which fled the scene and FHP Troopers are seeking.

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – Authorities are seeking a hit-and-run driver after a fatal crash with a pedestrian about 3:30 a.m. Sunday in Cocoa.

According to Florida Highway Patrol Public Information Officer Kim Montes, Daniel Wheeler, 57, of Cocoa, was struck and killed by two vehicles, one of which fled the scene and FHP Troopers are seeking.

One vehicle was driven by Christopher Gray, 35, of Cocoa, who was driving a 2005 Chevy Malibu north on U.S. 1 at Broadway Boulevard.

According to Sgt. Montes, Gray said that he saw the victim in the roadway just before the crash, who was “not standing” just before the impact.

The second vehicle, which is being sought by authorities, was traveling north on U.S. 1, hit the victim while he was still on the road, and then fled the scene of the incident.

Wheeler was pronounced dead by the medical examiner and this investigation is ongoing.
