Florida Institute of Technology’s Annual ‘Chopper Dropper’ Fundraiser Set For Today

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA — Today, at Suntree Country Club, the closest golf ball to the pin will win someone the $50,000 grand prize as Florida Institute of Technology holds its 15th Annual Chopper Dropper.
The event is a key part of the university’s biggest fundraiser for athletics scholarships, the annual Sporting Affair XXVI, which also features food and drink, a silent auction and more. The fun begins at 5:30 p.m., with the Chopper Dropper scheduled for approximately 6:30 p.m.
The title sponsor of Sporting Affair XXVI is Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Audi of Melbourne.
Chopper Dropper involves dropping 2,000 numbered golf balls from a helicopter onto a putting green, with the ball closest to the pin winning the holder of that number the $50,000 grand prize. There is also a $10,000 second prize and 15 $1,000 prizes, as well.

There is also plenty to do before and after those golf balls drop.
A cocktail buffet reception will feature food from sponsors The Broken Barrel Tavern and Carrabba’s. There will be a silent auction featuring unique sports memorabilia and more, and a 50/50 cash raffle.

Sporting Affair and Chopper Dropper benefit Florida Tech’s 22 sports programs and more than 550 student-athletes by generating funding for athletic scholarships.
