Pedestrian Struck by Cocoa Police Vehicle Responding To Report of In-Progress Suicide Attempt

A Cocoa police patrol officer responding to a report of an in-progress suicide attempt struck a pedestrian at approximately 9:18 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Clearlake Road and Lake Drive.

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – A Cocoa police patrol officer responding to a report of an in-progress suicide attempt struck a pedestrian at approximately 9:18 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Clearlake Road and Lake Drive.

According to Yvonne Martinez, Cocoa Police Public Information Officer, an adult female was walking eastbound on Lake Drive and was crossing Clearlake Road when she was hit.

The officer was not injured.

“The victim was airlifted to the hospital with serious injuries,” said Martinez.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating this officer-involved crash.

Martinez said that the officer, who has not been identified, is on paid administrative leave per department policy while the initial investigation is ongoing.
