BREVARD COUNTY • TITUSVILLE, FLORIDA – Titusville High School was evacuated Thursday morning after suspicious package was found in the courtyard and reported to local authorities.

After investigating, Titusville ruled the suspicious device as a hoax in a Thursday morning press conference.

“The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Bomb unit responded and addressed the suspicious device and deemed it as a hoax device,” said Titusville Police.

Titusville Police, along with Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, investigated the matter.

“A suspicious device incident at Titusville High School has shut down the campus temporarily. All students and faculty are safe,” said Titusville Police Thursday morning.

“School grounds are being cleared by the BCSO bomb squad.”

According to Titusville Police, BCSO bomb squad unit has been called in to assist.

Authorities say information for students and parents will come from the Brevard Public Schools District.

According to Fox 35 reporter Derrol Nail, police are asking parents to not drop their kids off at Titusville High.

The school was placed in a brief lockdown Thursday before students were eventually evacuated, while a BCSO bomb squad unit worked to clear the scene.

Titusville High School’s Principal Annetha Jones wrote to parents via email Thursday morning:

Dear Parents,

I wanted you to be aware of a current situation at Titusville High School. This morning, a suspicious package was found on campus. As a result, we have evacuated the campus and moved students to the auditorium and football field. Law enforcement agencies are at the school investigating the matter.

For parents who would like to check-out their child, please report to the auditorium with identification. If your child has not arrived at campus, please have them stay at home until further information has been provided. Belongings and vehicles will remain on campus until the investigation is complete.

I assure you that your child’s safety is always our top priority. I commend our local law enforcement officials and Titusville High School staff for working together to resolve this matter. We will update you as new information becomes available,

Sincerely,

Annetha Jones
