SPACE COAST DAILY TV SPECIAL PRESENTATION: Brevard County leaders and concerned citizens are developing programs in support of reducing youth depression and preventing suicide. Panelists discussing the issues included Liz Mikitarian, Lori Duester, Lyn Cline, Latisha Sims, Brevard Public Schools, Brevard Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Desmond Blackburn and Assistant Superintendent of Student Services Dr. Elizabeth Thedy.

BREVARD COUNTY • VIERA, FLORIDA – Brevard County leaders and concerned citizens are developing programs in support of reducing youth depression and preventing suicide.

Space Coast Daily interviewed Brevardians working to address the causes of teenage depression and suicide.

Panelists include Liz Mikitarian, Lori Duester, Lyn Cline, Latisha Sims, Brevard Public Schools, Brevard Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Desmond Blackburn and Assistant Superintendent of Student Services Dr. Elizabeth Thedy.

The experts discussed the following topics on Space Coast Daily TV and answered questions from the public through Space Coast Daily’s social media channel on Facebook:

• Hannahs Heroes and how the organization is reaching out to prevent youth suicide and address the issue in a comprehensive manner.

• The Sources of Strength program in north Brevard is the first of its kind in Florida and is sponsored by Jess Parrish Medical Foundation. The program is currently in five Brevard secondary schools and growing.

• How Brevard Public Schools are supporting social-emotional learning throughout the county with and through the Youth Mental Health Task Force.

• Out of the Darkness/Sources of Strength Carnival will take place March 17, from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Sand Point Park in Titusville and free admission and free activities.
