BREVARD COUNTY • TITUSVILLE, FLORIDA –Titusville Police and a SWAT team ended an armed standoff that lasted a couple of hours at the River Breeze Apartments located on Court Street and US-1 in Titusville.

Police say the standoff ended peacefully when a SWAT team administered tear gas to arrest the female suspect.

The suspect has been identified as 55-year-old Sherrie Copeland from Titusville.

“Officers were called to the complex at 3 p.m. by several victims after an adult female resident had pointed a handgun at them,” said Deputy Chief Todd Hutchinson of the Titusville  Police Department.

“The suspect retreated back into her apartment with the firearm when officers arrived.”

That is when police negotiators spent several hours trying to get the suspect to surrender.
