BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA– On Monday afternoon, several members of our agency and I were honored to recognize one of our incredible businesses that have given countless children in Brevard County the unique opportunity to experience farm life and to learn about the amazing industry of Agriculture.

For over 40 years, the Sledd family has farmed the land at the east end of Burkholm Road in Mims, Florida.

The farm, originally a citrus grove, is the only year-round “U-Pick” farm in the area. The farm is best known for their “U-Pick” strawberries and sunflower maze, however the Sledd’s also grow cabbage, collards, kale, broccoli, peppers, tomatoes, squash, zucchini, eggplant and cucumbers.

Pat Sledd, son Dale Sledd and daughter Stacey Sledd DeMoss along with grandchildren, Kendall Sledd, and Makayla and Lindsey DeMoss all of Mims, FL, have hosted thousands of children at their farm to learn first-hand how fruits and vegetables are grown and cultivated.

There is no question that a day spent on the Sledd’s farm goes along way to demonstrate just how important Agricultural is for each and every one of us and our great nation.

It’s not just about how fruits and vegetables are grown, it’s a lesson in values such as responsibility, teamwork, respect for the environment, and learning to overcome challenges.

I would like to personally thank the Sledd Family for their incredible generosity in sharing their farm with children throughout Brevard County and for their incredible partnership with our agency.
