BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Eastern Florida State College women’s tennis team made history Saturday at the Region 8 Women’s Tennis Tournament in Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs.

The Titans finished runner-up in the Florida College System Activities Association tournament and advanced to the NJCAA Division I National Tournament in Waco, Texas. It is the first time in program history that a team will play in the national tournament.

Sophomore Yuliana Monroy had a big day for the Titans, winning the Region 8 title at No. 1 singles, defeating Hillsborough Community College’s Ceire Mullins in the final 6-3, 6-3 in a rematch from last year’s championship match.

“It was a really good match, she is a tough opponent, she plays really well and has a big serve,” Monroy said.

“But I entered today so focused on my game and did really well. I feel very happy, it is my final year and I wanted to give my best and finish very well. Everything is good so far.”
