FLORIDA HIGHWAY PATROL: Bicyclist Hit and Killed By Vehicle In West Melbourne

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash involved a vehicle vs. a pedestrian and occurred on Milwaukee Avenue and La Veta Drive in West Melbourne at about 7:50 a.m. Wednesday morning.
BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Florida Highway Patrol Troopers are on the scene of a fatal crash in Brevard County.
The crash involved a vehicle and a 66-year-old West Melbourne man on a bicycle and occurred on Milwaukee Avenue and La Veta Drive in West Melbourne at about 7:50 a.m. Wednesday morning.
According to Lt. Kim Montes, Florida Highway Patrol Public Affairs Officer, a 2004 Toyota van was traveling westbound on Milwaukee Avenue as the bicyclist was traveling westbound on Milwaukee Avenue, to the right of the van.
“The bicyclist attempted to make a left turn onto La Veta Drive and turned into the direct path of van,” said Lt. Montes in a release.
The front of the van struck the left side of the bike and the rider was ejected. The victim was pronounced deceased at Wuestoff Hospital, according to FHP.
The identity of the victim or circumstances of the crash has not yet been released. This crash remains under investigation.
