Brevard County Sheriff’s Office: Missing Kayaker Found Dead In Mosquito Lagoon

Scott Kemper, 53, found dead

Authorities identified the deceased man found as 53-year-old Scott Kemper who went missing Saturday afternoon in Port St. John and found dead in the Mosquito Lagoon on Sunday.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – A missing kayaker who went missing Saturday afternoon in Port St. John was found dead in the Mosquito Lagoon on Sunday, according to Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities identified the man found as 53-year-old Scott Kemper.

“We are saddened to report that Mr. Kemper was found earlier this morning deceased in the Mosquito Lagoon. Mr. Kemper was observed by a local charter boat captain and recovery efforts are now underway,” said Brevard County Sheriff’s Office in a statement.

“Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to his family and friends as well as our appreciation to our community who offered their assistance in locating Mr. Kemper.”

Kemper is believed to have launched his beige 16-foot Tarpon Kayak at Haulover Canal in Mims after deputies discovered his car at Haulover Canal with the kayak missing and all kayak straps inside the vehicle.
