BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – This past Tuesday, a visitor at the Viera Courthouse began experiencing difficulty breathing which was immediately noticed by Court Services Deputy Rocky Roblin who quickly requested that Brevard County Fire Rescue respond to the scene.

Upon hearing the call for assistance to the courtroom, FTO Mark Medley, FTO Chris Waggoner and FTO Doug McCarty immediately jumped into action and ran to assist with the emergency. As they were accessing the victim, his condition suddenly worsened by gasping for air and his color turning blue.

FTO Medley, who is also a certified paramedic, immediately recognized the need for first aid and with the assistance of FTO Waggoner moved the victim to a flat surface to began administering lifesaving CPR.

FTO McCarty quickly attached an AED to diagnose the patients condition and to be prepared to provide a shock if needed. The Deputies continued to perform CPR as BCFR was responding, when his condition began to stabilize and he began breathing on his own.

Without the lifesaving efforts of these four Deputies, the victim would most likely not have survived this medical emergency.

The victim was subsequently transported to a local hospital by BCFR for further medical treatment.
