Florida Highway Patrol has released the identity of the man killed in West Melbourne, while riding his bicycle Wednesday morning.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Florida Highway Patrol has released the identity of the man killed in West Melbourne, while riding his bicycle Wednesday morning.

The bicylist killed has been identified as 66-year-old John Scott from West Melbourne.

The vehicle involved in the crash was driven by a 31-year-old woman, Calleen Polanco, who didn’t suffer any injuries.

Investigators say the crash occurred on Milwaukee Avenue and La Veta Drive in West Melbourne at about 7:50 a.m. Wednesday morning.

According to Lt. Kim Montes, Florida Highway Patrol Public Affairs Officer, the 2004 Toyota van was traveling westbound on Milwaukee Avenue as the bicyclist was traveling westbound on Milwaukee Avenue, to the right of the van.

“The bicyclist attempted to make a left turn onto La Veta Drive and turned into the direct path of van,” said Lt. Montes in a release.

The front of the van struck the left side of the bike and the rider was ejected. The victim was pronounced dead at Wuestoff Hospital, according to FHP.

The crash remains under investigation.
