BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Brevard County School Board discussed a variety of topics at Tuesday’s meeting in Viera.

One of the hot topics was school safety.

The board’s agenda for tonight’s meeting included discussing the  Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Act.

The initiative establishes the Office of Safe Schools in the Department of Education and coordinates integrated data between Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Florida Department of Children and Families, Florida Department of Juvenile Justice and local law enforcement agencies.

The legislation makes significant reforms to make Florida schools safer, while keeping firearms out of the hands of mentally ill and dangerous individuals.

The new measure would also create the School Safety Awareness Program called FortifyFL.
