Eastern Florida State Calls 2017-2018 Most Successful Season In Athletics In School History

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Eastern Florida State College’s athletic teams wrapped up their most successful season in school history last week as five programs competed for national championships during the 2017-18 season.
Overall, 10 of the 11 sports teams made it to the postseason with the women’s soccer, men’s basketball, men’s golf as well as the men’s and women’s tennis teams all finishing in the top eight in their respective national tournaments.
“What a tremendous year for athletics! It was a magical year with success in almost every program,” Eastern Florida State College Associate Vice President of Athletics Jeff Carr said.
“Our coaches and student athletes made us very proud of the team and individual achievements. Hopefully we can build off this and have a few national champions next year.”
The women’s soccer team made it to the national tournament semifinals for the fourth time, falling to eventual national champion Tyler Junior College in the semifinals at Titan Soccer Complex.
It was the sixth straight season the women’s soccer team has been in the national tournament.
The Titans went 13-3 this season led by Katie Lockwood, who was the first Titan to be named the United Soccer Coaches Association Junior College National Player of the Year. The midfielder finished with 17 goals and 12 assists this season. Lockwood and Nathali Da Silva were also named first team NJCAA All-Americans while teammate Juna Suppan was named second team All-American.
The men’s basketball team finished third in the nation this season with a 30-5 record.
For the second straight season, the Titans finished in the top three in the national tournament as they defeated Vincennes University in the third place game at the NJCAA National Championship Tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas. The Titans have now made the national tournament four straight seasons and eight times overall.
Sophomore guard Ahmed Ali was named second team All-American after averaging 17.9 points per game. During his two seasons at Eastern Florida State College, Ali has scored 1,182 points, making 230 3-pointers which is the most in school history.
The tennis teams made their debut on the national scene this season and both came away with top-six finishes in the nation.
The women’s tennis team had two players make the semifinals and finished fifth overall in the NJCAA Division I National Championship Tournament in Waco, Texas.
Sarah Manseri and Dugleisy Linarez both reached the semifinals in singles flights, a first for the program. Yuliana Monroy finished her Titans career as the FCSAA Player of the Year as well as the region Sophomore of the Year after losing in the quarterfinals Tuesday.
The men’s tennis team placed sixth overall at the NJCAA National Championship Tournament in Plano, Texas.
The doubles team of Adriel Azucey and Nils Michel made it to the semifinals at No. 2 doubles in the national tournament.
The men’s golf team reached the NJCAA Division I National Championship Tournament for the 16th straight season, placing eighth overall at The Rawls Course in Lubbock, Texas last week.
It is the fourth straight season that the Titans have placed in the top 10 in the national tournament and fifth time in past six years.
Sophomore Fraser Davren was named honorable mention All-American after placing 16th overall individually.
The men’s soccer team was one win away from making the national tournament this season, falling in the District Tournament Championship game 3-1. The Titans finished 12-3 on the season and made it to the district tournament for the third straight season.
Danilo Orsi-Dadomo and Mickey George were each named third team All-American for the Titans.
The women’s basketball team made the championship game of the FCSAA State Tournament for the first time in school history led by Alexandrine Obouh-Fegue who was named NJCAA Division I honorable mention All-American. The Titans finished with a 24-7 record overall and were unbeaten at home – a perfect 14-0 in head coach MJ Baker’s first season.
The volleyball, softball and women’s golf teams also competed in the postseason for the Titans.
