Panthers lose 4 members from current roster heading into next season

CONOVER, NORTH CAROLINA (Florida Tech) – No. 4 Florida Tech climbed four spots on the leaderboard Tuesday and finished eighth overall out of 20 teams at the 2018 South/Southeast Super Regional Championship at Rock Barn Country Club. The Panthers missed out on advancing to their second straight NCAA National Championship by just two strokes.
After winning the program’s first ever Sunshine State Conference Championship two weeks ago at Grande Oaks Golf Club, the men’s golf team was unable to replicate its incredible performance. However, the Panthers did close out the season on the right foot by posting their best score of the tournament in the final round on Tuesday.
FIT recorded a 1-over par 285 to move from 12th to eighth in the standings and end with a three-round total of 26-over 878 (298-295-285).
No. 1 West Florida earned the regional crown at 840 (-12), three strokes ahead of No. 2 Florida Southern (-9). No. 5 Barry edged out No. 6 Lynn by one stroke to take third place with a score of 853 (+1). No. 18 Lincoln Memorial took fifth at 16-over 868, while No. 31 Delta State (+24) and No. 16 Saint Leo (+24) tied for sixth and grabbed the final two national championship spots.
A pair of Panthers finished among the Top-20 on the leaderboard. Ali Thurlow carded a 3-under 68 in the final round and Max O’Hagan shot 2-over 73, and the duo tied for 19th at 2-over par 215.
Shanren Brienen tied for 54th in the field at 10-over 223 (77-74-72) while Han Xue ended in a tie for 64th with a score of 12-over 225 (76-77-72). Toby Robert rounded out the squad with a 28-over 241 (82-80-79) and in 100th place.
The men’s golf team will now look towards the 2018-19 season. FIT loses four members from its current roster but returns a majority of its regular lineup including a pair of SSC Championship medalists.
