Former Brevard County Resident Lore Stern Howard Scurrah Passes Away at Age 89 in Albany New York

Immigrant, proud American citizen, librarian, tennis player and humanist, Lore Stern Howard Scurrah was born in 1928 in Bielefeld, Germany. She died May 23 at the age of 89 at her home at Avila Retirement Community in Albany, NY.
Lore was a school librarian at Schalmont Elementary School before becoming an administrative librarian for the New York State Education Department. Passionate about stocking public school libraries with the best books for students, she earned several awards. After retirement, she served on town library boards, volunteered with Hospice and served on the board of the Northeastern Association of the Blind at Albany (NABA).
Lore married Jim Howard in 1948 and raised a family in Voorheesville, NY. In 1973 she married Mark Scurrah. They lived in Knox, NY and Indian Harbor Beach, FL. After Mark’s death, she moved to Satellite Beach, FL. In 2011 she re-settled in Albany, NY.
Lore’s sense of humor, intelligence and loving nature will be missed by her family and many friends. She is survived by four children, Jenny Howard of Atlanta, GA, Richard Howard (Pamela Chris) of Albany, NY, Tom Scurrah (Sara) of Dover, MA and Lisa Scurrah Conrad (Richard) of Glenmont, NY. She is survived by her sister, Eva Stern Williams of Minneapolis, nieces Lori-Anne and Linda and nephew, Harry.
She was a beloved grandmother and great-grandmother to Adam Howard (Chandra), Christine Howard (Seth Peabody), Emily Howard, Samuel Howard (Katherine), Seth Howard (Megan), Zachary Howard, Jake Scurrah, Orion Howard, Josephine Lore Howard-Peabody, Leo Howard and Benjamin Howard-Peabody.
A member of the Capital District Humanist Society, her life will be celebrated at a gathering in Berne, NY on August 25, 2018, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. For details please contact Chris Howard via email: email@example.com
