BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – On Tuesday, I had the honor of visiting Suntree Elementary School to present Kaitlyn Clements with a “Great Kids” Award.

Kaitlyn was nominated by Principal Shari Tressler, her Teacher Mrs. Watson and School Resource Deputy Nicole Contos.

The “Great Kids” Award was started to recognize outstanding kids in our community who constantly show respect for their peers, help others in a time of need, maintain a strong academic standard and represent themselves, their family and their school with great character and pride.

This program is facilitated in partnership with School Resource Officers and Deputies throughout Brevard County and the Brevard Public Schools.

Kaitlyn was recognized today for her caring, calm and courageous nature.

Many students who are Kaitlyn’s age don’t know what to do when faced with an emergency, but Kaitlyn quickly responded to help two individuals who needed help at her school.

When an intern became ill in the classroom, Kaitlyn jumped into action by alerting her Teacher and remaining with the intern until her Teacher could settle the class and provide further instructions. Kaitlyn also came to the aid of a student who became physically ill in the classroom, by assisting and comforting her.

Kaitlyn responded to these situations with a maturity beyond her years and without question her compassion and decisiveness made a difference for the two individuals she helped.

In addition to helping others, Kaitlyn serves as a role model for other students by exhibiting great character, respect and attention to academics.

Please join me in congratulating Kaitlyn on being a “Great Kid” and also in thanking Kaitlyn’s parents for attending today’s presentation and for all they do to impact Kaitlyn’s life!

I would like to extend a personal “thank you” to Principal Tressler, Mrs. Watson and School Resource Deputy Contos for submitting Kaitlyn for this well-deserved award.
