BREVARD COUNTY • MERRITT ISLAND, FLORIDA – Join Orville Susong from the Friday Night Locker Room and Alan Zlotorzynski from Space Coast Daily as they bring you the Class 6A Regional semifinal baseball game between the Merritt Island Mustangs (22-6, 6-1) and Rockledge Raiders (25-4, 6-2) on Space Coast Daily TV.
The game was played at Space Coast Stadium in Viera and sponsored by Champions Honda Kawasaki in Cocoa.
The Mustangs have now taken three of the four meetings this season from the Raiders with previous wins of 12-0 on March 2, and 5-4 on May 3.
The Raider’s only victory came on April 4 when they handed the Mustangs an 8-4 loss. Each team’s only loss in district play came to each other.
The Raiders are led by legendary skipper and former FSU standout Greg Clayborne, while Merritt Island is managed by Greg Plecki.
The Mustangs have knocked the cover off the ball this year as they have averaged eight runs per contest while allowing only a tad under three per seven innings.
Rockledge has been almost as good as the plate scoring a little over six runs per contest, but the Raiders are tops in Brevard County allowing just 1.6 runs per contest.
The Mustangs advanced to tonight with a 7-4 win last week over Sun Coast while Rockledge defeated Port Saint Lucie 3-0.
The winner of tonight’s contest will advance to the regional final on May 22 and face the winner of the American Heritage and Archbishop McCarthy contest.
