COC oversees how the district spends revenue from the half-cent sales surtax

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Independent Citizens Oversight Committee (ICOC) for Brevard Public Schools is seeking new members.
The ICOC oversees how the district spends revenue from the half-cent sales surtax.
Passed by Brevard County voters in 2014, the surtax provides funding for critical facility renewal, educational technology and security projects throughout the school district. The committee was established as part of the surtax program’s terms presented to voters.
Applications are being accepted for up to two positions. The school board makes appointments to the committee based on candidate recommendations provided by the ICOC.
The committee meets the third Wednesday of February, April, June, August, October and December at 3 p.m. at the Educational Services Facility.
Their agenda includes reporting on sales surtax revenues and expenditures, as well as project updates. Information about their meetings, including project and expenditure updates, can be found on BPS’ Sales Surtax webpage.
