BREVARD COUNTY • ROCKLEDGE, FLORIDA – Rockledge Firefighter/EMT Joe Johnson of the Rockledge Public Safety Department went that extra mile last week when he saved a small kitten stuck in a storm drain.

The intricate rescue operation occurred at the corner of Fiske Boulevard and St. Andrews Drive, and according to authorities, the kitten is doing fine.

Johnson’s efforts certainly exemplify the department’s mission statement stressing commitment to the spirit of public service and recognizing the tremendous energy, dedication, sacrifice and compassion needed to give unselfishly to one’s community.

The City, the State and our nation are stronger and better because of public servants who choose to serve and lead.
