BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – Florida Highway Patrol Troopers now believe that the red passenger vehicle that they have been looking for was not involved in the fatal crash that occurred on State Road 528 on Saturday.

According to Lt. Kim Montes, Florida Highway Patrol Public Affairs Officer, the driver of a red Chevy Malibu and his attorney came to the Florida Highway Patrol station in Cocoa on Tuesday morning.

“The attorney provided video evidence that the red Chevy Malibu did not make contact with the blue Ford Mustang,” said Lt. Montes in a release. “The video shows theMustangg losing control and crossing into the westbound lanes.”

Lt. Montes said the driver of the red Chevy Malibu did not provide a statement to troopers.

“Because this is an ongoing death investigation, the video is not public record and will not be released to the media at this time,” said Lt. Montes. “When the investigation is complete, the video will be available.”

BREVARD COUNTY • MERRITT ISLAND, FLORIDA – Florida Highway Patrol Troopers were at the scene of a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred at about 7:20 p.m. Saturday night on State Road 528, just west of the State Road 3 exit.

According to Lt. Kim Montes, Florida Highway Patrol Public Affairs Officer, the three-vehicle crash involved a 2007 Mustang, a red passenger vehicle, which may be a Dodge Charger, and a 2013 Lexus SUV.

“Witnesses tell Troopers that the Mustang and the red passenger vehicle were traveling eastbound on State Road 528 and appeared to be involved in a road rage,” said Lt. Montes in a release.

“The front of the red passenger vehicle struck the rear of the Mustang and then fled the scene. After the initial impact, the Mustang traveled across the center grass median and into the westbound lanes and was struck by a westbound SUV.”

The red passenger car then fled the scene, eastbound on State Road 528.

The driver of the Mustang, a 58-year-old Jeffery Brookshire of Orlando, was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger, a yet to be identified 26-year-old Orlando woman, was airlifted to Holmes Regional Medical Center in critical condition.

The driver and passenger of the Lexus SUV suffered minor injuries.

Lt. Montes said that FHP Troopers are looking for the red passenger vehicle with an “Endless Summer” specialty license plate which also had a sticker on the back which said “Hammock Kippy.” The vehicle will also have front-end damage.
