Former U.S. Congressman John Mica Endorses Mac McLouth For Port Canaveral Commission

Mac McLouth, a Republican candidate for the Port Canaveral Commission District 5 seat, announced Saturday that he has received the endorsement of former U.S. Congressman John Mica.

BREVARD COUNTY • PORT CANAVERAL, FLORIDA – Malcolm “Mac” McLouth, a Republican candidate for the Port Canaveral Commission District 5 seat, announced Saturday that he has received the endorsement of former U.S. Congressman John Mica.

“No one has worked harder or done more for Port Canaveral than Mac McLouth,” said Mica.

“Mac’s dedication and passion for Port Canaveral is inspiring. Mac McLouth personifies what public service is all about.”

Congressman Mica served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1993 to 2017 and served as the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Transportation and Public Assets in the Oversight and Government Reform Committee. He also served as the Chairman of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.

From 2007 to 2010, Mica served as the Transportation Committee’s Republican Leader.  From 2001 to 2006, he chaired the Subcommittee on Aviation. From 1999 to 2001, he served as Chairman of the Subcommittee on Criminal Justice, Drug Policy and Human Resources.

As Chairman he became a national principal leader in the development of our nation’s counter-narcotics policy.

As Chairman of the House Civil Service Subcommittee from 1995 to 1999, Mica authored landmark legislation dealing with veterans preferences, expanding health care access for military dependents and establishing one of the federal government’s largest employee stock ownership programs.

McLOUTH HAS EXTENSIVE EXPERIENCE, ENDORSEMENTS OF ELLIS, BARFIELD AND ALLENDER

McLouth has extensive experience and previously served for more than 30 years as a port commissioner from 1967 until 1996 and also from 2008 until 2010. He was also the port’s director of business development from 1996 to 2000 and the port’s CEO from 2000 until 2004.

McLouth has also received the endorsement of Brevard County Clerk of the Court Scott Ellis, District 1 Port Commissioner Jerry Allender and District 2 Brevard County Commissioner Jim Barfield.

Ellis said he trusts McLouth to maintain the balance needed between a thriving commercial port and a thriving waterfront amenity for Brevard residents.

Commissioner Barfield said that McLouth’s institutional knowledge of the port is invaluable.

“I endorse Mac McLouth as the Republican candidate for the Canaveral Port Authority, Mac has the experience and vision to help the port,” said Barfield.

The 2018 Primary Election will be held on August 28 and the 2018 General Election will be held on November 6.
