There is a lot to learn about gambling when it comes to looking at it through the lens of the law. So before you decide to travel to a country, be sure to find out if they accommodate your favorite gambling games.

If you are unsure where you can and can’t gamble around the world, don’t sweat it, we did the work for you and put together a list of places around the world that have a no tolerance gambling policy, and those that have opened the floodgates:

United Arab Emirates – Nearly every Islamic country has a no tolerance policy on gambling of any kind. While a lot of countries turn a blind eye to gambling or have some loose regulations that are rarely enforced, the United Arab Emirates is not one of these countries. All gambling is illegal and they take it very seriously. A gambler can serve up to two years in jail. The country even has a stranglehold on all internet connections, so all gambling related sites are firewalled.

Cambodia – One of the reasons that this country has such a strict policy when it comes to gambling is because they have had many problems with it in the past. Gambling addiction has plagued citizens of Cambodia, so they do not take gambling lightly. However, strangely enough, it is not illegal for foreigners to gamble in Cambodia, only locals. Even games like bingo are not legal to locals.

The United States – A country that was actually built by revenue earned from gambling, the United States has very loose regulations when it comes to gambling. In fact, recently a law was amended, allowing each individual state to choose if sports betting is legal. What used to be a federal ban is now being left up to the states.

The U.S. is also great because they allow online gambling as well. While there are actually unclear and gray regulation about gambling online in the US, 70% of the online gambling community is estimated to be American, and little backlash is experienced because of it.

The UK – A refreshing change of pace, gambling laws in the UK are much more straightforward than in other countries. Nearly every form of gambling is legal in the UK, and well regulated; this includes online gambling as well. The UK is a leader in the legal gambling community because they have clear regulations in place that are exercised regularly. This is nice for gamblers because it means very clear rules that do not require deliberation or speculation. UK gambling professionals are safe to practice their skill without being unsure of the repercussions of the law.
