Daniel Lyon Strickland, 43, arrested

Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) has arrested a Mims man after he turned himself into authorities for leaving the scene of deadly crash that involved a bicyclist in Orlando last month.

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) has arrested a Mims man after he turned himself into authorities for leaving the scene of deadly crash that involved a bicyclist in Orlando last month.

The suspect has been identified Daniel Lyon Strickland, 43, from Mims.

FHP says Strickland left the scene of the crash on June 27 near Colonial Drive and Berkeley Street in Orlando around 6:30 a.m.

“After receiving Crimeline tips and other information from the public, the vehicle was located at a residence, in Cocoa, on June 28,” said Sgt. Kim Montes of Florida Highway Patrol.

“The crash happened after the 2007 Honda SUV struck and killed 49-year-old, Jorge Arias, while he was riding his bicycle to work.”

Troopers located surveillance video of the suspect, Strickland, near the crash scene and the driver admitted to being in the area at the time of the crash.

Strickland was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of a traffic crash, involving a death and Driving while license suspended, with knowledge, causing death.

He is currently being booked into the Brevard County Jail under a warrant.
