ORLANDO, FLORIDA (UCFKnights.com) – The Maxwell Football Club announced its watch lists for the 82nd annual Maxwell Award and the 24th annual Chuck Bednarik Award on Monday, as UCF’s McKenzie Milton and Trysten Hill were recognized among the top offensive and defensive players in the nation, respectively.

The Maxwell Award, named in honor of Robert W. “Tiny” Maxwell, has been given to America’s College Player of the Year since 1937. Maxwell’s contributions to the game of football were extensive, including time as a player, a sportswriter and an official.

Milton, the 2017 American Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year, was a semifinalist for the Maxwell Award last season. He is one of just six returning semifinalists in 2018.

A Fourth Team All-America selection by Phil Steele in 2017, Milton set or tied eight UCF single-season records as a sophomore, including most passing yards (4,037), most passing touchdowns (37), and highest quarterback efficiency (179.29).

The Bednarik Award, meanwhile, has been presented to the College Defensive Player of the Year since 1995. Chuck Bednarik, a former standout at Penn and with the Philadelphia Eagles, is a member of both the College Football Hall of Fame’s Class of ’69 and the NFL Hall of Fame’s Class of ’67.

Hill, a defensive lineman for the Knights, has started all 26 games of his first two seasons in Orlando. As a sophomore, he was named Second Team All-Conference by The American after punishing offensive lines in 2017.

The Maxwell and Bednarik Awards are members of the National College Football Awards Association (NCFAA), which encompasses the most prestigious awards in college football. The 24 awards boast over 750 years of tradition-selection excellence.

Semifinalists for the Maxwell and Bednarik Awards will be announced Oct. 29, 2018, while the three finalists for each award will be unveiled Nov. 19, 2018. The winners of the 2018 Maxwell and Bednarik Awards will be announced as part of the Home Depot College Football Awards Show on Dec. 6, 2018.
