BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA,  FLORIDA– Starting next week, Cocoa High’s Jatana Folston will be a senior but her accolades in track and field to this point amount to what would be considered a distinguished career for most.

On Saturday in Des Moines, Iowa, Folston added yet another accolade to her impressive track and field resume, one that had eluded to this point, an individual 400-meter national championship.

To say Folston ran past the entire field to capture the Gold Medal in the 400m at the 2018 AAU Junior Olympics would be understating her performance.

The state record holder in the 600m disappeared from her opponents as she finished a full second ahead of the second place finisher with an astounding time of 53.71 seconds.

The 2018 Space Coast Daily Breakfast of Champions Female Track Athlete of the year is one of the most talented runners to ever hit the tracks on the Space Coast.

Earlier this year Folston ran the 600m and set a new state record time, US No.1 mark, and US No.2 all-time mark of 1:32.04.

For her performance, she was named Mile Split National Athlete of the Week. Jatana currently holds the No.1 two all-time record in the state of Florida in the girls indoor 400m.

Folston won the 400m and 800m at the Cape Coast Conference, District, and Regional meets. She was the first athlete in Brevard County to ever record that feat.

Folston finished the 2018 season at the State games bringing home three medals.  She was part of the Claas 2A relay team that finished 4th in the 4 x 400; she had a third-place finish in the 800, and ran a personal record and placed first in the 400.

She plans to attend college on an academic or athletic scholarship.

While Folstons accomplishments make you shake your head in wonder, there is no doubt that the best is yet to come.
