BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The indie rock band Cold War Kids will headline Florida Institute of Technology’s Homecoming Fest on Friday, Oct. 12, in downtown Melbourne.

The free outdoor event on New Haven Avenue, presented by the Florida Tech Alumni Association and Mainstreet Partners, runs from 6 p.m. to midnight. It is one of the highlights of the university’s year-long 60th-anniversary celebration.

In addition to music from Cold War Kids and opening acts Authority Zero and Moska Project, Homecoming Fest will feature street vendors and food and drink for sale.

Formed in 2004 in Fullerton, California, Cold War Kids offers a blues-rock-punk-influenced sound, with Fiona Apple, Nick Cave, Led Zeppelin, Radiohead, U2 and others as influences, according to members.

The free outdoor event on New Haven Avenue, presented by the Florida Tech Alumni Association and Mainstreet Partners, runs from 6 p.m. to midnight. It is one of the highlights of the university’s year-long 60th-anniversary celebration.

The band has produced eight albums, including the 2017 studio album, “L.A. Divine,” that hit No. 9 on Billboard’s Alternative Albums chart and No. 10 on its Rock Albums chart, and this year’s live recording “Audience” from an April concert in Athens, Georgia, both from Capitol Records.

“The impetus for me [with Audience] was that the songs were recorded very, very quickly and over years they have evolved into a different thing,” frontman Nathan Willett told AXS.com.

“The thing that we do live is us at our best. In the studio, we try to replicate that and often times we don’t achieve it.”
