TOURISM UPDATE: TDC Reports USSSA Generated 2,771 Hotel Room Nights January through April

USSSA PLEDGED TO GENERATE 75,000 ROOM NIGHTS IN FIRST YEAR OF OPERATION
BREVARD COUNTY • VIERA, FLORIDA – The Space Coast Office of Tourism released a report showing 2,771 hotel room nights had been generated by the U.S. Specialty Sports Association (USSSA) at the Space Coast Stadium complex in Viera for the first four months of 2018.
The room nights generated by the USSSA, itemized by the event, for the first four months of 2018 were:
• USA Elite Select Top Gun Challenger (1/12/18-1/14/18): 646 room nights
• Winter Fest Championship Men’s Open, C, Mixed D, Mixed E (1/19/18-1/21/18): 7 room nights
• Winter Fest Men’s D, E & Women’s B, C, Open (1/26/18-1/27/18): 33 room nights
• President’s Day Super NIT (2/16/18-2/19/18): 778 room nights
• South Florida Winter League (3/10/18-3/20/18): 248 room nights
• Space Coast Spring Break Classic (3/24/18-3/25/18): 375 room nights
• East State Championship (4/11/18-4/13/18): 192 room nights
• Hall of Fame Classic (4/19/18-4/22/18): 300 room nights
• Spring Classic Select – Super NIT Week 1 (4/27/18-4/29/18): 192 room nights
TOTAL: 2,771 room nights, January-April, 2018
Under the 20-year lease agreement between Brevard County and the USSSA, the USSSA is obligated to generate 75,000 room nights in the first year of operation and 100,000 room nights per year within three years of operation or pay a penalty.
According to the lease agreement, in any year during the term of the lease that the room nights guaranteed by USSSA do not meet the thresholds, the base amount of $250,000 shall be payable by the USSSA to the county, and shall increase by a percentage equal to the shortfall in the number of room nights divided by the guaranteed number of room nights for that year.
In December 2016, Brevard County commissioners, led by Robin Fisher, voted 4-1 to approve the lease agreement with the USSSA, which then relocated its headquarters from Kissimmee to Space Coast Stadium in Viera.
Space Coast Stadium’s previous tenants included Major League Baseball’s Florida Marlins, Montreal Expos and Washington Nationals, and the Brevard County Manatees, a Class A Florida State League team.
