ORLANDO, FLORIDA (UCF Knights) – Head coach Josh Heupel is getting plenty of restful, peaceful slumber at night. Thanks for asking.
Coach Heupel met with the media one final time on Tuesday to discuss Thursday’s season-opener at UConn.
One of the first things he was asked dealt with the amount of sleep he’s getting as he prepares to take the field for the first time as a head coach.
“I had no problems falling asleep (last night),” Heupel said.

“I did it quickly and had a great rest. Honestly, I don’t anticipate (Wednesday night) being any different than the first time as a position coach, first time as a coordinator. This is new, obviously, as a head coach. But I don’t have any trouble sleeping at night.”
Heupel gets plenty of rest because he believes the Knights’ coaching staff and student-athletes have done all the work necessary to be prepared for Thursday night.
“You prepare well and trust your guys – both players and coaches – and you’re ready to go play,” Heupel said.

Now that all the physical work of game week is out of the way, Heupel said the rest of the time leading up to 7:03 p.m. Thursday evening at Pratt & Whitney Stadium is mental.
“It’s about dialing in to the mental side of the game, ensuring that you’re understanding everything,” Heupel said. “Your checks, defensively, formation adjustments. Offensively, splits and calls up front. Dialing into the details and making sure that you’re mentally prepared and you feel clear of any concern, because you know your job so well. Then, you can go out there and play aggressive. I’ve said that before, we want to attack. We want to be aggressive. I think our kids, by kickoff, will be ready to do that.”
Thursday’s game at the University of Connecticut is set for 7:03 p.m. and will be televised nationally on ESPNU. UCF fans can also listen to the game on FM 96.9/AM 740 The Game and around the world on iHeart Radio.
