WASHINGTON, DC – Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey is in Washington DC today to meet with White House officials on illegal immigration matters, and to urge Congress to act on pending legislation that will increase border security for our great nation.
Sheriff Ivey and approximately 50 other Sheriffs from across the country were invited to participate in this important event on Capitol Hill where top elected law enforcement leaders from around the country will be joined by some members of Congress, as they share their experiences and public safety challenges associated with Illegal aliens and border security.
The purpose of the meeting is to discuss and recommend legislative action that will increase border security and reform our immigration system.
“It is my intention as well as the other Sheriffs who will be in attendance to tell Congress that the failure to deal with this issue for over 20 years has made our communities less safe and to remind them that government’s primary responsibility is to protect its citizens.”
“During our visit to the White House, we had the opportunity to discuss the many challenges we face as law enforcement leaders to adequately and effectively deal with this ever pressing issue,” said Sheriff Ivey.
“Together we must pass immigration reform that allows law enforcement at the local, state and federal level to implement strategies to more easily identify criminal illegal aliens, while continuing to harbor outstanding relationships and partnerships with our law enforcement partners across the country.”

These vital partnerships maximize law enforcement’s potential to identify and remove criminals from our communities so that we are doing everything we can to protect our citizens.

“As sheriffs, we are elected by our citizens to protect our communities and by encouraging Congress to take action on immigration reform we are upholding our oath to the United States Constitution and our commitment to keep our citizens safe.”
