BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – The Cocoa Firefighters Association will host its third Annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb event on Saturday, Sept. 15 at Cocoa High School’s football stadium, located at 2001 Tiger Trail in Cocoa.

The event is open to all citizens, firefighters, law enforcement and military who would like to pay tribute to the first responders who died on September 11th. Attendance is free and the event is for all ages.

“Participants will be climbing flights of stairs at the Cocoa High School football stadium symbolizing the stairs firefighters climbed at the World Trade Center to rescue citizens on September 11th,” said event organizer Alex Candelario, Firefighter/Paramedic for the City of Cocoa Fire Rescue.

“Participants are encouraged to climb the full 110 flights of stairs that equal the height of the World Trade Center towers. However, participants are not required to complete the full 110 flights. They can climb as few as they want, or just to pay tribute by attending.”

The event will begin at 6 p.m. and will feature a pipes and drums ceremony, national anthem, a moment of silence and a flag raising. There will also be food and a DJ playing music while participants climb the stairs.

Attendance is free, but any optional donations go to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation and Cocoa Community First.
